True Christianity Is Not a Cultural Tradition

True Christianity Is Not a Cultural Tradition

(Based on a message by Paul Washer)

Many of you who are older — you know what it’s like to truly follow Christ. You know what it costs. You know the pain of standing for your faith. Some of you have suffered for it. You would rather die than deny Jesus Christ or live in a way that contradicts His Word.

But young people, listen carefully.

Many of you were raised in Christian homes. Many of you were born in the West. And you must be very, very careful. Christianity is not a cultural thing. It's not a tradition you inherit. It’s not a Sunday ritual. It’s not a piece of your life.

Christianity is life itself.

It’s living for Christ day in and day out — six days a week in the world and on the seventh coming to worship with God’s people. It’s not about blending in with the world Monday through Saturday and showing up to church to check a box.

If your "Christianity" is just that, you have no Christianity.
You are not a Christian.

It’s a dangerous thing to grow up around the things of God. It’s a dangerous thing to be raised in a Christian family or a Christian community. Because you might start to think that just because your parents believe, you are covered too. That somehow, because the people around you have suffered for the faith, you share in their reward.

But Christianity is not about your family’s faith.
It’s about your heart before God.

It's not about showing up on Sunday — it’s about dying to yourself and living for Christ every day.
