I like to picture it this way — just a little example to help make the point clear.
Imagine a businessman. He’s had a terrible day at the office.
Everything went wrong.
The air conditioning broke down.
His secretary didn’t type his letters correctly.
Then, on the way home, he gets stuck in a massive traffic jam, breathing in exhaust fumes for an hour.
Finally, he gets home — and the supper isn’t ready.
The kids are running around the house, screaming.
And right at that moment, he loses control.
As they say in America, he blows his stack.
He starts yelling, shouting — and that demon of anger that’s been following him around all day?
It slips right in.
From that moment on, he’s just a little different.
Something has changed.
At times, something seems to come over him.
He starts wounding the people he loves the most — his wife, his children.
It started with a bad day, but it became something far worse because he opened the door to anger.
Anger gives the devil a foothold.
And if it’s not recognized and repented of, it can change a person — hurting them and everyone around them.
Friend, don’t ignore the little doors you leave open in your life.
Even a small slip can become a devastating pattern if it’s not surrendered to Jesus.
