(Based on a message by Paul Washer)
One of the unmistakable marks of true salvation is the ongoing work of God in the life of the believer. When the Lord truly saves a person, He doesn't simply leave them as they are. No — He immediately begins a work of cleansing, a work that continues for a lifetime.
The moment we believe in Jesus Christ, we are justified. We are declared right with God through faith alone. But justification is just the beginning. If we have truly believed, God will not stop there. He will begin the lifelong process of sanctification — of changing us, of cleansing us, of removing the filthiness of our sin and the idols we once clung to.
And here is the good news: He can do it. He is sovereign over the believer. He has the power to work in our hearts, to transform us, to make us clean, and to cause us to grow in holiness. He has promised it.
The Lord says in His Word:
"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols." (Ezekiel 36:25, NKJV)
This is not a possibility; it's a certainty for every true child of God. Trust Him. Yield to Him. He is faithful to finish the work He has begun.
